Orange River 2009

Orange River News and Pictures

April holidays was a great success with many friends, family's  and schools visiting the Orange River for a few days of rafting, sunlight, spills and thrills with our rafting crew from Xama Adventures based at Oewerbos River Camp on the banks of the mighty Orange River.

September holidays was full of fun and rafting, new friends where made and old friends returned for yet another fantastic September season on the mighty Orange River.

This year during the April busy season the river was running at a good rate at around 150 cumecs. This was to be much enjoyed by all our paddlers as there was a lot of time to relax and enjoy the flow of the river. Rapids where exciting with different river features making for some interesting obstacles, even a broken and upside down mohawk became one of trips mascots as one of our guides called Matt paddled it down to safety, nick naming his croc (inflatable river craft) a trusted "landcruiser and his passenger (the broken mowhawk) a "Landrover".

Easter was enjoyed on the banks of the mighty Orange River by some of our family groups, and even the "Easter Bunny "made his appearance for breakfast!

All in all fun was had by all, with great words of appraisal and promises of returning soon to paddle one of South Africa's most majestic great river - The Orange / Garipe River.

The river had dropped a bit since the April run by September but we where fortunate to hear of new fresh water arriving just before the peak September season. This was well appreciated by all those rafting our 5 day tour down to the Auzenkheur farms as we had some great runs. The mighty Shambok was back to its old tricks as we watched fellow rafters tackling this famous rapid before it was our turn. Lets just say this year one of our older guides took a swim as the pax enjoyed a good laugh - thanks Grant for the entertainment!

Our next Orange River holiday packages will begin again in November and run through until May 2010 before the winter season kicks in. We hope to see you all back again , and to meeting new friends! Keep the Orange Spirit in You!" - Book now for your adventure at info@xama.co.za
