Itinerary:

Day 1:
We depart from Cape Town and travel over Sir Lowrey's Pass into the Overberg Region. We stop to visit the numerous farm stalls along the route until we reach the town of Swellendam. This is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, rich in culture and heritage. After lunch we make our way up into the mountains to our accommodation for the evening. We relax as the sun disappears behind the mountains and the stars appear to shine. Xama Adventures provides a mouth watering dinner enjoyed around the fire.

Day 2:
We wake up to the smells of the country side and continue our journey through the mountains. On route we will have many opportunities to take photographs and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We travel over the Outeniqua Mountains and down into the Klein Karoo towards the town of Oudtshoorn. Here we visit an Ostrich Farm and some may have the opportunity to learn to ride ostriches. This proves to be one of the tours many highlights. Later that afternoon we visit the Cango Caves before settling into our accommodation for the evening.

Day 3:
Today we visit the Kango Wildlife Ranch where we take a tour and learn more about the crocodile, cheetah, lion and white tiger. Mid morning tea is enjoyed before we depart along the back roads of the Klein Karoo towards the town of Steytlerville. The evening is spent star gazing and listening to the stories of years gone by.

Day 4:
We depart fairly early and make our way to the Addo National Elephant Park. Here we spend the day game viewing and experience a little bit of the safari lifestyle. Watching the animals, enjoying meals cooked on the open fire and listening to the surrounding sounds.

Day 5:
We wake up to the sounds of nature, enjoy breakfast and take a short drive to our next destination, Scotia. This was an old dairy farm which over the years has been turned into a well established private game reserve. Our hosts Jenny and Peter, the owners, organize us the day filled with game viewing in this malaria free environment and teaching us a little bit more about the animals and plants found in their reserve. Later that evening we may be fortunate enough to spend a night in the lion camp. Here we stay in a "kraal", traditional herdsman enclosure. The night is spent listening to the lions only meters away, just on the other side of the thorn bush walls of our protective home. This is very safe and all caution is taken to create a pleasant and exhilarating evening. A true treat and highlight for the group.

Day 6:
Breakfast is prepared with the sounds of roaring lions in the distance, a very unique experience. We say goodbye to our rangers whom watched over the camp for the night before taking yet another short drive to the coast. Today we visit the popular surfing town of Jeffrey's Bay. Here we can learn to surf, go on a horse trail, visit the aquarium or browse the many factory shops for designer surf labels and accessories. We spend the evening at one of the backpackers, and enjoy the festivity that this sea-side town has to offer.

Day 7:
We depart from J-Bay and go directly to the Tree Top Canopy Tour set deep in the Tsitsikama forest. Here we are given a safety talk, strapped into harnesses and glide between the enormous yellow wood trees from platform to platform. A lot of fun to be had. We enjoy a lunch before visiting on of the largest trees in the forest. Our accommodation is within the Tsitsikama National Park where we spend the evening down at the coast. Let the sounds of the waves put you to sleep.

Day 8:
A morning wake up to the sounds of the coast. Breakfast is enjoyed before we depart for our next destination, Knysna. On route we will stop at the holiday town of Plettenberg Bay where we will enjoy morning tea. By lunch time we would have arrived in Knysna and we spend the afternoon exploring the shops and waterfront. There is an oyster factory to visit as well as the Mitchells Brewery (Brewery tours are seasonal). Later that afternoon we take a drive to the top of the Knysna Heads. These are two cliff faces which guard the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon. There are many sea stories and a mysterious feeling is felt when visiting the look out point. We spend the evening in Knysna, enjoying the town's festive ambiance.

Day 9:
Some of the morning can be spent visiting more shops before we make our way to the train station. Here during season we board one of the last steam trains and enjoy a train ride through the mountain passes and along the coast to the town of George. Here we meet up with our transport and travel to Victoria Bay just outside of George. The campsite overlooks the sea and is the perfect spot to view the sunrise the following morning. There is a beach for games and activities and one can take a walk along the pier to watch the local surfers. Dinner is enjoyed as the sun goes down over looking the sea.

Day 10:
Today we make our way back home to Cape Town. On route we will stop at the Bungi jumping bridge, Garitz River. Here those brave enough can have the opportunity to jump while the rest of us watch from the bridge or view points. We will make numerous stops along the way at the farm stalls, where we can enjoy homemade food sorts and handicrafts. Our estimated time of arrival will be late afternoon where we will be dropped off at our starting point.
